SAMPLE CASE

I have worked with several attorneys over the years and been involved in forensic psychiatric work for the past fifteen years. The following cases are listed because of the extensiveness of their forensic involvement or because they involved class action proceedings.

  1. This case was as expert witness for the attorney general, State of Michigan, involving a class action suit of some 30 female inmates in the state correctional system alleging various elements of sexual harassment from the male guard staff. I was a defense expert, involved with conducting psychiatric evaluations on a total of twelve of the plaintiffs. The case was ultimately settled out of court, with variable favorability for the state.
  2. Forensic psychiatric expert in an insanity pled case involving a jailed inmate in Wayne County Jail charged with serial homicides; I was hired by the defense attorney. I advised against the insanity plea and he was subsequently found guilty.
  3. I've been involved in a number of cases in behalf of the City of Detroit Law Department, usually related to independent psychiatric evaluations in context of personal injury or worker's compensation allegations. I have been similarly involved in IME examinations in fitness for duty or workman's comp cases on behalf of the Detroit Police Department.
  4. Defense expert witness in a class action case involving six minority employees of Consumers Power, alleging racial discrimination. The case was settled out of court for a relatively small monetary amount, which essentially was a judgment in favor of Comsumer's Power.
  5. Plaintiff's expert witness for a law firm in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The case involved a personal injury claim by the deceased widow and estate of a gentleman who committed suicide the day after he was seen in the local hospital emergency room; this was a negligence case that was settled in favor of the plaintiff.
